Father's Day is a holiday celebrated to thank the father, and it began in the United States in the early twentieth century. Fathers usually receive gifts from children on this day. Most countries and regions in the world celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday in June, including Europe, Asia, the United States, and Japan. Mainland China does not have an official Father’s Day, but people in Hong Kong and Macao have traditionally used the third Sunday in June as in Europe and the United States. Since the reform and opening up, people in Mainland China have also adopted the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. The Republic of China has adopted August 8 since the post-war period and during the Republic of China period in mainland China. Many countries regard dendrobium as the "flower of Father's Day".
